I have not been on here for a long time and seeing the great success of many on youtube I think I have a really good idea that I am hoping all of you will be excited about because it will hopefully save you some money. :)
How many times has this happened to you, you buy an edible adult item for $10 to $40 and it ends up tasting HORRIBLE or you don't like the texture? I have, we all have, and I am sure we all wish we could have the money back on all the horrible adult products we bought. So initially I am going to review mostly edible lubricants. I will cover taste, texture, additional things like if it heats or cools. Also, if it is latex safe. I will have these on 1 to 10 scale. I am going to have a video review, written review, and a paypal cart so you can purchase them if I have any available.
I will also cover other edible items and probably do toy reviews too. I am just trying new strategies for sales while offering you as much information as possible before you decide to make a purchase. I am hoping that you are all as excited about this as I am. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions on lubricants for me to test.

The why and the history of The Scarlet Ibis NW
There are a lot of adult shops in Oregon and I have been asked many times why did you start and what makes you different? In response I would say my business is very different, especially from the other shops in my area. There is also a lot of history behind our “humble beginnings.”
When I first began sales my business was not The Scarlet Ibis and I did not sell adult products. I sold discontinued bath and body works items online. I did my research about what was going out and I bought it from bath and body works during their sales. Bath and body works and other bath and body items are still a part of my store, but it is not my main focus.
The Bath and Body Works sales did slow down as my studies became more demanding. However, because of persistent medical struggles I found myself unable to keep up with school at the end of spring of 2007. Being out of school, and for all the reasons why, was a struggle. All though this was 2007 I do not remember much from this time in my life. At the time I did not know I had Endometriosis and this is why I was so ill. What I did know, however, was that I had seasonal depression and I had to move out of Oregon. So in July of 2008 I moved to Southern California.
During this time my Endometriosis got considerably worst so finding full time job like I wanted was not possible because of the pain. I had to find another way. Around this time I saw some new adult edible products at Victoria’s Secret that were part of the Pure Romance line. It had apparently been the first time Pure Romance had ever been sold in stores. I was intrigued and started reading more. Pure Romance did more than just sell products. It almost felt like a sisterhood and I liked that feeling. Unlike so many Adult shops I have seen, it felt romantic and sophisticated.
Around the same time I found Pure Romance products I found I had Endometriosis and I started reading other women’s stories. Endometriosis plays a big impact on a woman’s life in general. She cannot do as much as she would like because of the pain. However, It also affects a woman’s love life because it can make sex very painful and can cause horrible symptoms afterwards. I found that many women avoided romance because of the pain and many women’s marriages ended in divorce. Their stories moved me. I began to read that other disorders also caused painful sex and caused as much emotional damage as the physical. Many women even admitted to not saying anything about the pain because they were ashamed and it made them feel unattractive… So many of these women moved me, and I wondered how many women did not live their life to the fullest because they were being held back by fears of intimacy.
The more I read and searched for products the more I found there were more options and help than many knew. I was also confronted with the fact that there were not that many adult shops that women and couples felt comfortable in. After all, many shops look shady and could make anyone ashamed to even consider going in. Also, even when you find one that looks nice there is the concern that someone you know will see you. If you’re shy at all the whole experience can be traumatizing. “What if the cashier is a guy? I really don’t know what to buy but I’m too embarrassed to ask!” When creating The Scarlet Ibis NW I had all of this in mind. I wanted a comfortable environment for women, or anyone who was interested. I also ship items out in unmarked boxes for customer’s privacy.
When I first started the store I named it Isis Oasis and it really was not a store at all, just a bunch of inventory on a shelf. It was not exactly what I would consider a home business. However, I was forced to move back to Oregon fall of 2008. At this point, after speaking to clients and other women I changed Isis Oasis to The Scarlet Ibis because I was told many times the name “Isis Oasis” sounded like the name of a brothel.
I chose the new name, The Scarlet Ibis (now the Scarlet Ibis NW because of our Oregon location) because I wanted charity to always be a part of my business. I originally decided to donate 1% of profits to the Audubon Society. Unfortunately, due to slow sales I have been forced to discontinue this program. However, when work picks up this program will be reinstalled.
The official “birthday” of The Scarlet Ibis is in August, the store began to physically take shape in December. Items are well organized in shelving units and we have many more items.
I suppose the short end of it is, The Scarlet Ibis NW was a labor of love. It’s anything but your typical Adult Shop.
